SMS has its own surface area: lost phones, lock-screen previews, shared devices, departing employees. Four design choices that handle each of them honestly.

  • Read-only by architecture. Breadwinner cannot create, edit, or approve transactions over SMS — or any other channel. There's no write path, period.

  • Numbers are provisioned, not self-served. Only phone numbers an admin has registered can ask. A stranger texting your Breadwinner number gets a polite "access denied" — never your AR balance.

  • Sensitive answers can be redacted. Configure server-side redaction for full account numbers, customer PII, or any field your data team marks sensitive. Masked on the phone, fully visible in the audit log.

  • Lose the phone? Lose access in 30 seconds. An admin clicks Deactivate in the portal; the number stops working immediately. Audit log is unaffected — you keep the history, the phone loses the access.

Won't sensitive numbers show on someone's lock screen?

Like any text message, a preview can appear on the lock screen. Sensitive content can be redacted server-side so balances and identifiers are masked over SMS while the full answer stays in the audit log. Users can also configure their phone to hide message previews until unlock — standard iOS and Android setting.

What about TCPA and A2P 10DLC compliance?

Breadwinner is A2P 10DLC registered with our carrier. Numbers go through a one-time opt-in confirmation when an admin provisions them. STOP and HELP are supported per FCC requirements, opt-outs are logged, and we provide our 10DLC campaign brief and opt-in workflow documentation on request.

Will it work outside the US?

US and Canada by default. The UK, Mexico, Australia, and EU countries are available on enterprise plans. SMS reliability and per-message pricing vary by carrier and country, which we'll walk through with you before turning a region on.

What if someone leaves or loses their phone?

An admin deactivates the number in the portal — the next text from that number stops being answered immediately. The audit log keeps the prior history, the phone loses the access. Same flow for resignations, lost devices, or device-replacement.

An admin connects your finance system, registers the phone numbers that should have access, and sets a permission scope per number or group. From the user's side: they text a question in plain English to your dedicated Breadwinner number, and an answer comes back in seconds — sourced from your real finance data, not a guess.
Each Breadwinner account gets a dedicated 10-digit US/Canadian long code (10DLC) from our carrier, registered to your business. Users save it as "Breadwinner AI" in their contacts and text questions to it like any other contact. Enterprise customers can request a vanity number or short code (additional fees apply).
Yes. Breadwinner is registered as an A2P 10DLC campaign with our carrier. Each customer's account is provisioned under our brand and campaign, with proper messaging-content classification and opt-in workflow. Campaign brief and registration details are available on request — useful when your compliance team reviews the deployment.
An admin adds the phone number in the Breadwinner portal and assigns a permission set. The user receives a one-time confirmation text and replies to confirm — that's the opt-in. After confirmation, they can ask questions immediately. No app install, no account creation, no password.
US and Canada are supported on every plan. Enterprise plans can enable additional countries — common requests are the UK, Mexico, Australia, and EU. SMS reliability and per-message cost vary by country and carrier, which we'll walk through and budget for before enabling.
Standard plans include 2,000 questions per month pooled across all channels and users. Each question (text in + answer out) counts as one question regardless of channel. SMS overages outside the US/Canada may have an additional carrier surcharge on enterprise plans — we'll show you the breakdown.
Per FCC and carrier rules, any user can text STOP at any time to opt out — Breadwinner immediately stops messaging that number and the opt-out is logged. HELP returns an info reply explaining what Breadwinner is and how to contact your admin. Opt-outs are auditable in the admin portal.
Today, answers come back as text. We don't send images or charts over MMS — keeps cost predictable and ensures the answer is readable on every device, including non-smartphones. For visual answers, users can ask Breadwinner via Slack, Teams, ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
Permissions are enforced server-side by phone number, every question and answer is logged in the admin portal, and sensitive fields can be redacted in the SMS reply while staying intact in the audit log. SMS itself is transported over carrier networks — not encrypted end-to-end like iMessage or Signal — so we recommend redaction for any data your security team flags as sensitive.
