The short answer

There is no single best alternative

The right choice depends on three things: which finance system you use, how many other systems you need to connect, and who will build and maintain the integration. Breadwinner suits teams that want finance data on their Salesforce records from an app they install and do not have to build. The alternatives below suit teams with different priorities, and we say where each one is the better fit.

Choose Breadwinner if

you want NetSuite, QuickBooks Online or Xero data on your Salesforce records, installed from the AppExchange, without another platform to build and maintain.

Choose an integration platform if

you want one place to build and run many integrations across the company, and you have people to own it. See Celigo, Workato, MuleSoft and Boomi below.

Choose Oracle's connector if

you are on NetSuite OneWorld and want your ERP vendor to own the connector.

Choose a template tool or a custom build if

you want to start from templates, including for QuickBooks Desktop, or your requirements are unusual and you have developers to own the result.

By finance system

Which options cover NetSuite, QuickBooks and Xero?

A "connector" is a building block you assemble into your own integration. An "app" or a "template" is a prebuilt starting point. "Not found" means we did not find it in that vendor's documentation, so ask the vendor.

Option NetSuite QuickBooks Xero
Breadwinner Native app Native app (QuickBooks Online) Native app
Oracle NetSuite Connector First-party connector Not applicable Not applicable
Celigo Managed integration app Integration template Not found in its documentation

NetSuite Connector vs Breadwinner
C

Celigo

Integration platform (iPaaS)

Celigo has a managed Salesforce-NetSuite integration app and a Salesforce-QuickBooks integration template. Celigo says templates are unlocked and do not receive bug fixes or new functionality. We found no Salesforce-Xero offering in its documentation.

Best for

You want one platform for many integrations and have people to own it.

Consider something else if

Ask whether you are being quoted the managed app or a template, because that decides who maintains it.

Breadwinner vs Celigo
W

Workato

Integration platform (iPaaS)

Workato has connectors for Salesforce, NetSuite, QuickBooks Online and Xero, and you build recipes from them. It says it uses a usage-based billing model measured in credits, with self-service plans where Pro starts at $75 a month for 2,500 credits.

Best for

You want automation across many apps and have builders to design and maintain the recipes.

Consider something else if

You use QuickBooks Desktop, which Workato says its connector does not support.

Breadwinner vs Workato
M

MuleSoft

Integration platform, part of Salesforce

MuleSoft has two routes: Anypoint Platform, where developers build integrations, and Composer, a no-code tool with NetSuite, QuickBooks Online and Xero connectors. Its platform packages start at $2,000 per month, billed annually, and Composer has its own editions.

Best for

You want one integration layer across the company, or you already run MuleSoft.

Consider something else if

You want a packaged finance app rather than connectors you assemble yourself.

Breadwinner vs MuleSoft
B

Boomi

Integration platform (iPaaS)

Boomi has NetSuite, QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online and Salesforce connectors that you assemble into processes, and its runtime can run behind your firewall. It lists a Pay-As-You-Go plan at $99 per month plus usage.

Best for

You need QuickBooks Desktop connectivity, or you need to run integrations behind your own firewall.

Consider something else if

You use Xero, because we found no Xero connector in Boomi's Integration connector list.

Breadwinner vs Boomi
D

DBSync

Template-based integration tool

DBSync's Cloud Workflow offers no-code templates for Salesforce with QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Xero and NetSuite. It says syncs can run as often as every 5 minutes, and that all plans require an annual contract.

Best for

You want to start from a template, including for QuickBooks Desktop, instead of building flows from scratch.

Consider something else if

Check which connector tier you need, because DBSync lists NetSuite among its Premium connectors.

Breadwinner vs DBSync

Custom build

Build it yourself

Your developers build against the finance system's API and Salesforce, usually with Apex. You own authentication, error handling, retries and every API change after launch.

Best for

Your requirements are unusual and you have developers who will own it for the long term.

Consider something else if

You want to be live without a development project.

The honest part

When Breadwinner is not the right pick

We would rather you choose the right tool than the wrong one. In these cases, one of the alternatives above is likely a better fit:

You need one platform for many systems

If Salesforce and your finance system are two of many systems to connect, an integration platform such as Celigo, Workato, MuleSoft or Boomi gives you one place to build and run them all. Breadwinner connects finance systems to Salesforce and does nothing else.

You are on NetSuite OneWorld and want Oracle to own it

Oracle's NetSuite Connector is a first-party product, and Oracle's documentation says it requires OneWorld. If you are there and want a single vendor, it deserves a proper look.

You need to run integrations behind your own firewall

Boomi and MuleSoft both document runtimes you can host yourself. Breadwinner's sync runs on our own infrastructure on AWS.

You use QuickBooks Desktop

Boomi documents a QuickBooks Desktop connector and DBSync has a QuickBooks Desktop template. Breadwinner's product pages describe QuickBooks Online, so confirm with us before you decide.

How to choose

Four questions that settle it for most teams

1

Which finance system, and which edition?

NetSuite OneWorld opens up Oracle's own connector. QuickBooks Desktop points you to Boomi or DBSync. Xero narrows the field to Breadwinner, Workato, MuleSoft Composer and DBSync, based on what each vendor documents.

2

How many other systems do you need to connect?

Just Salesforce and one finance system favours a packaged app. Many systems favour an integration platform.

3

Who will build and maintain it?

With Breadwinner and Oracle's connector, the vendor maintains the product. With an integration platform or a custom build, you or your partner design, test and maintain what you build.

4

Where must it run?

If it must run on infrastructure you control, look at Boomi or MuleSoft. Otherwise, a vendor-run service is simpler.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Breadwinner alternatives for Salesforce accounting integrations.

Breadwinner is a native Salesforce app that syncs NetSuite, QuickBooks Online and Xero data into Salesforce. The main alternatives are Oracle's own NetSuite connector, general-purpose integration platforms such as Celigo, Workato, MuleSoft and Boomi, template-based tools such as DBSync, and a custom build. The best choice depends on which finance system you use, how many other systems you need to connect, and who will maintain the integration.

It can be good enough. Oracle's NetSuite Connector for Salesforce is a first-party product, but Oracle's documentation says it requires a NetSuite OneWorld account with at least one subsidiary. If you are on OneWorld and want Oracle to own the connector, it is worth evaluating. If you are not on OneWorld, or you want NetSuite data on your Salesforce records through an app you install from the AppExchange, Breadwinner is the alternative to look at.

It depends on the job. Those platforms connect many systems and you build and maintain what runs on them, so they suit teams that want one integration layer across the company. Breadwinner is one packaged app for one job, connecting finance systems to Salesforce, so it suits teams that want that without building anything. Each platform has its own comparison page linked above.

Boomi documents a QuickBooks Desktop connector, and DBSync has a Salesforce and QuickBooks Desktop template. Workato says its QuickBooks connector does not support QuickBooks Desktop. Breadwinner's product pages describe QuickBooks Online, so if you use QuickBooks Desktop, confirm with us before you decide.

Breadwinner has a native Salesforce app for Xero. Among the alternatives, Workato has a Xero connector, MuleSoft's Composer has one, and DBSync has a Salesforce and Xero template. We found no Salesforce and Xero offering in Celigo's documentation and no Xero connector in Boomi's Integration connector list, so ask those vendors directly.

Usually someone has to build and maintain what runs on these platforms. MuleSoft's Anypoint Platform and a custom build involve developers. MuleSoft Composer is described as no-code, but you still build the flows, and DBSync offers templates that you configure. Celigo's managed integration app is maintained by Celigo, while its templates are not. Breadwinner is installed from the AppExchange and does not require you to build an integration.

Breadwinner is not the right choice if you need one platform connecting many systems beyond Salesforce and finance, if you are on NetSuite OneWorld and want Oracle's first-party connector, if you need to run integrations behind your own firewall, or if you use QuickBooks Desktop and we cannot confirm support. In those cases, one of the alternatives on this page is likely a better fit.
